A technical SEO checklist for a website launch

Scroll Down

Technical SEO helps search engines reach and understand a website. A launch review should check the deployed pages themselves, including the first HTML response, rather than relying only on a successful build.

Inspect the first response

Check that the main heading, useful page copy, title and description are present in the server response. Interactive effects should enhance that content while essential links remain available to visitors and crawlers.

Review crawling and indexing separately

A robots.txt rule controls crawling; a noindex directive controls indexing when it can be read. Check production settings carefully so a staging restriction is not carried into the live site. Private information needs access control.

Choose canonical URLs

Use one preferred URL for each page and consistent internal links. Check host variations, redirects and real 404 responses. A canonical tag should point to the intended successful page.

Check the sitemap and structured data

List the canonical pages you want indexed. Exclude redirects, errors and private routes. Structured data should describe visible, accurate information; unknown company details and unverified reviews should stay out.

Review the result after release

Recheck the live domain, images and mobile layouts after deployment. Once access is available, use Search Console to inspect URLs and submit the sitemap. These steps support discovery without guaranteeing an indexing date or ranking.
